The Japan Toolbook is a small, personally-run blog about the everyday tools and household items people actually use in Japan — things like kyusu teapots, futons, kitchen tools, cleaning supplies, and nail clippers. I write about what these things are for, how they’re actually used here, and what to consider if you’re thinking about buying one from outside Japan.
Why I Write From Japan
I live in Japan, which means I can check things firsthand — visit stores, look at packaging, use the products myself, and see how they’re actually sold and used day to day. That’s the core of this site: information confirmed from here, not guessed from a listing photo.

How I Create Articles
- I start from a real question people search for
- I check Japanese-language sources and information
- Where possible, I confirm things in person — stores, packaging, actual use
- I don’t write about experiences I haven’t actually had or confirmed
- I use AI to help with structure and English phrasing, not to invent facts
